Creator of Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dr. Linehan developed Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based intervention that is recognized worldwide as the gold standard treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. DBT has also been shown in numerous independent studies to ease the symptoms of other complex mental illnesses.

Dr. Linehan is a Professor of Psychology and of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington. She is also Director of the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics, a national research consortium that develops and evaluates evidence-based treatments for high suicide risk, multi-diagnostic and difficult-to-treat populations with severe mental disorders. She founded the non-profit Linehan Institute and Behavioral Tech Research, Inc., to help disseminate evidence-based behavioral treatments to all who need them. Dr. Linehan is the recipient of the Louis I. Dublin Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Field of Suicide and the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology, American Psychological Association, as well as numerous other honors.
