Missouri Drug Rehab & Alcohol Rehab

The current drug problem in Missouri

Missouri FlagThe problems of drug abuse, addiction, and dependency have grown over the past decade in epidemic proportions compared to many other states. This has led to a rising crime and considerably higher numbers of admissions into the numerous Missouri drug rehab centers scattered throughout the state. In fact, as recently as just a few years ago, it was estimated that there were nearly 50,000 admissions into these addiction treatment and recovery facilities statewide.

The distribution and trafficking of illegal substances is made considerably easier for these different drug cartels because of the interstate corridors of I-44, 55, 70, and 470 that travel throughout the state. Being the heavier populated cities of Missouri, Kansas City and St. Louis suffer more than other areas in the state by virtue of the inflated crime numbers we find in both of these areas. Unfortunately, just about every drug imaginable is available in the state of Missouri which makes the situation even more dire.

The following facts and statistics reflect information that has been gathered from the many Missouri drug rehab centers throughout the state based on the recorded admissions of the clients that have enrolled in their addiction treatment and recovery programs:

  • 81% of all alcoholics are male while slightly over 73% of the individuals who are addicted to alcohol and a primary drug are males
  • 35.5% of all alcoholics are between the ages of 36 and 45, while 33% of all substance users in that age bracket drink alcohol and use a primary drug with it
  • 42.5% of all cocaine users smoke it in crack form and are between the ages of 31 and 40 while 33% who ingest the drug in other ways are in that same age bracket
  • 31.5% of all heroin users are between the ages of 21 and 30
  • 34% of all marijuana users are between the ages of 12 and 20
  • 38% of all meth users are between the ages of 21 and 30
  • statistics regarding drug arrests in the state of Missouri have been like a rollercoaster ride during the past decade and the pattern continues today
  • during the three-year period from 2002 to 2004, meth lab seizures reached an all-time high and continues to be an ongoing problem in the state today

The majority of the cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine found in Missouri is being brought into the state by numerous Mexican drug trafficking cartels. Additionally, there is a number of smaller, highly toxic methamphetamine laboratories in the state as well which can be found in many areas. The following is further information regarding the five primary drug threats in the state:Drugs Abused In Missouri

  • Club drugs – Ecstasy is the drug of choice in Missouri and is widely available throughout the state. Most of the Ecstasy found in the state originates in the cities of Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City. Other club drugs such as GHB and Rohypnol has become increasingly available in the state and is now a concern of the DEA and state law enforcement agencies. The number of admissions into Missouri drug rehab centers as a result of abusing these substances is growing in number as well.
  • Cocaine – the larger metropolitan areas of Missouri are seeing a steady supply of cocaine entering these areas. Ironically, the number of deaths due to cocaine overdose continues to decrease despite the fact that Missouri drug rehab centers have witnessed increasing numbers of admissions into these facilities over the past few years.
  • Heroin – although heroin dose not pose as serious a drug threat in the state as other substances do, it is a significant concern of the DEA and local law enforcement agencies in the larger metropolitan areas of Kansas City and St. Louis. Mexican black tar heroin is the more significant threat where this drug is concerned. However, Mexican brown heroin is widely available as well.
  • Marijuana – the supply of marijuana continues to be widely available throughout Missouri with the majority of that supply originating Mexico. During the period of 1994 to 2004, the number of admissions into the various Missouri drug rehab centers that were marijuana related grew over 400%. These admissions were second in number with methamphetamine being responsible for the growth of those admission numbers.
  • Methamphetamine – as we mentioned above, methamphetamine has been and continues to be producing the most significant numbers of Missouri drug rehab center admissions. It continues to be the most serious threat to law enforcement and is considered one of the most serious public health threats in the state as well.

Getting the professional help you need

Missouri Addiction CounselorFor many individuals who are suffering with substance abuse, addiction, and dependency issues, admitting that they have a problem and then getting the professional help they need is not always easy. In many instances, these individuals do not have the financial means to pay for an in-patient addiction treatment and recovery program at a Missouri drug rehab facility or they may not have insurance coverage. The luckier ones have health insurance that will at least cover the detox and withdrawal stage of the entire process.

In other cases, it is the fear of the unknown, more explicitly the fear of learning to live without drugs that deters them from entering one of these Missouri drug rehab centers. Additionally, there are numerous challenges that arise for the individual once they have been admitted into one of these facilities that will hinder them from progressing through the different stages of the program. These challenges are usually of an emotional, physical, and social nature.
