Dr. Talal is a board-certified gastroenterologist and an internationally recognized expert in liver diseases.  He has been a pioneer in the use of telemedicine to integrate treatment for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with substance use treatment in methadone-maintained patients.  Dr. Talal currently leads a 5-year, $7 million study comparing telemedicine-based treatment of HCV to usual care at 12 methadone programs in New York State.  He has been a Professor of Medicine at the University at Buffalo since 2012.
