Blue Cross Blue Shield Rehab Centers

Minnesota Blue Cross Blue Shield Drug RehabBlue Cross and Blue Shield features multiple health insurance plans in Minnesota. These insurance plans all provide coverage for inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment programs, though the amount of coverage and patient out-of-pocket costs vary by plan.

Catastrophic Coverage

There is one Blue Cross and Blue Shield catastrophic insurance plan available in Minnesota. It is the BlueSave Catastrophic $6,600 Plan 256, which pays 100 percent of inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment costs after meeting the deductible. The deductible does not apply to the first three outpatient office visits when seeing an in-network provider.

Bronze Coverage

Several BCBS coverage options in Minnesota pay 100 percent of inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment charges after covered individuals meet their plan deductible. These include the BlueAccess HSA Bronze $5200 Plan 236 and the BlueAccess HSA Bronze $4500 Plan 235, as well as the BlueBasic Bronze $6,200 Plan 244, which does not apply a deductible to the first three outpatient office visits.

Two other plans require a smaller deductible, but insurance only covers a portion of treatment expenses once the deductible has been met. The BluePrint HSA Bronze $3,500 Plan 258 pays 80 percent of inpatient and outpatient expenses, and the BlueBasic Bronze $3,000 Plan 243 covers just 50 percent of treatment costs.

Silver Coverage

Silver plans have smaller deductibles than bronze plans, requiring less money out-of-pocket for substance abuse treatment. Some are even health savings account eligible, meaning any qualified out-of-pocket expenses may be federally tax deductible when paid through an HSA savings account. These include the BlueAccess HSA Silver $3,000 Plan 239 and the BlueBasic HSA Silver $3,500 Plan 247, both of which pay 100 percent of inpatient and outpatient treatment costs after meeting the plan deductible. The BlueAccess HSA Silver $2,000 Plan 238 is also HSA-eligible, though the plan pays just 80 percent after meeting the individual deductible.

The BlueBasic Silver $4,500 Plan 246 is similar to the high deductible plans, in that it pays 100 percent of substance abuse treatment charges after meeting a deductible. However, this plan offers total coverage for the first three outpatient office visits without subjecting them to a deductible. Likewise, the BluePrint Silver $2,000 Plan 253 allows for two outpatient substance abuse treatment visits covered at 100 percent. A deductible applies to all other inpatient and outpatient treatment expenses, with the plan paying 80 percent of in-network costs after meeting an individual deducible.

Other silver substance abuse treatment insurance coverage in Minnesota allow for reduced rates on outpatient office visits and provide partial coverage for inpatient services after meeting a plan deductible. Both the BlueAccess Silver $1,500 Plan 237 and the BlueBasic Silver $2,100 Plan 245 charge a $40 outpatient substance abuse treatment office visit copay, with the former covering 60 percent and the latter paying for 80 percent of all other qualified expenses, including inpatient treatment.

Gold and Platinum Coverage

Gold and platinum insurance plans offer the most comprehensive coverage for substance abuse treatment in Minnesota. The following five plans pay 100 percent of treatment costs after meeting the plan deductible:

BlueAccess HSA Gold $1,800 Plan 240
BlueBasic Gold $2,000 Plan 248
BluePrint Gold $1,500 Plan 254
BlueBasic Platinum $1,000 Plan 249
BluePrint Platinum $1,000 Plan 255

It is important to note that the deductible does not apply to the first three outpatient office visits under the BlueBasic Gold $2,000 Plan 248, BluePrint Gold $1,500 Plan 254, and BlueBasic Platinum $1,000 Plan 249 plans, or the first two outpatient office visits under the BluePrint Platinum $1,000 Plan 255.

Just two BCBS insurance plans have no deductibles for inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment. The first – the BlueAccess Gold No Deductible Plan 241 – instead charges a $30 copay for each outpatient office visit. All other service, including inpatient care, is paid at 80 percent coverage. Similarly, the BlueAccess Platinum No Deductible Plan 242 requires just a $20 copay for each outpatient office visit and requires policy-holders to pay only 10 percent of all other eligible outpatient treatment service costs. Inpatient treatment is covered in full after a $200 copay per admission.
